My work considers the relationship between humans and nature, particularly the city dweller’s experience of viewing animals in an urban setting, behind and against manmade structures.

The creation of graphics and characters for print and embroidery allows me to explore these themes whilst producing commercially viable work.
Drawing and photography are initially used to gather source material, which I then simplify to produce bold, memorable motifs and patterns.

My practice consists of desirable, handcrafted garments and accessories. I hand screenprint fabric with urban-inspired geometric blocks of colour, embellishing these prints with embroidered motifs of animals, using computerised embroidery machines. The finished fabric is used to create skirts, bags, scarves and badges.

The city is an inspiration, urban, eclectic, technologically advanced and yet inexorably bound to nature. I aim to apply a similar philosophy to my own practice, using the hand and technology together to produce one-off pieces that hopefully bring attention to the value of craft over the mass produced.

Awareness of the impact the fashion and textiles industry has on the environment leads to considering organic materials within my practice. I believe that as consumers become increasingly educated about ethical issues, the higher the demand for unique, beautiful, handcrafted items.
